Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
We are happy to offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy, a generally new treatment in veterinarian medicine that has many positive effects.
Overview
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has been common in human medicine but is generally new to the world of veterinarian medicine. The patient is placed in a specialized chamber and the atmospheric pressure is increased so that the blood is dissolved and delivered to the tissues at a high level. The high oxygen levels and the increase in air chamber pressure allow oxygen to diffuse into the patient's tissues at a higher rate, which promotes healing faster than usual.
High oxygen levels will transfer into areas of low oxygen levels that will immediately begin to help tissues even with compromised or no blood flow.
Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
HBOT is successfully beneficial in pets by increasing pressure, thus reducing the size of gas bubbles and improving the flow of blood to tissues. HBOT is helpful for treating any conditions that would benefit from an increased supply of oxygen to the affect part of the body. These can include, severe wounds such as trauma, snake bites, burns, brain or spinal cord injuries, strokes, pancreatitis, peritonitis, blunt force injuries, or any slow healing wound.
What Can I Expect?
Most of our HBOT treatments will last about an hour, 1-2 times per day, for a few days. Your pet will be evaluated beforehand, ensuring proper care is taken and the safety of them is always our top priority. They will feel no pain during the procedure and side effects are extremely minimal.
